Cheers for Fears & Theater im Pumpenhaus : Common Grounds Lab

24th - 28th of July 2024, Probenzentrum Hoppengarten Münster

From 24th until 28th of July 2024, Cheers for Fears and Pumpenhaus Münster are inviting art students and young artists from NRW to participate in an interdisciplinary lab at the rehearsal and residency centre Hoppengarten in Münster.

Over five intensive days, the Common Grounds Lab offers participants with different educational backgrounds the opportunity to come together, to reflect on their own practice in exchange with other artists and to develop new interdisciplinary working methods. The space of Hoppengarten rehearsal centre forms the concrete ‘common ground’ for encounters between different perspectives and for joint artistic try-outs. The space of Hoppengarten rehearsal centre forms the concrete ‘common ground’ for encounters between different perspectives and for joint artistic try-outs.

We invite actors from all artistic genres such as performance, scenography, architecture, cultural studies, music, visual arts, artistic research, artivism, mediation, theater pedagogy, etc. to join the lab.

Moderated and accompanied by the Cheers for Fears team, we will first get to know each other’s artistic practice. Then we will negotiate together what the presets, conditions and concepts of our work are. What motivates us and our art? What are our individual strategies, what are our common concerns? What is our common ground?

To investigate these questions, we will come together in small interdisciplinary groups, write artistic scores for each other and leave traces that will then inform the artistic work of the others. We examine the Hoppengarten with the means of art and intervention and test a collective and collaborative use of this space. We confront local structures

and institutions with our questions and artistic concerns. We swarm out and look for new spaces for our art with a subversive gesture.

At the end of the lab, we invite you to share the outcomes with the group and celebrate together.

  • Languages: German, English if required
  • Participation is free of charge.
  • Vegan catering is offered during the lab.
